How to Take Your AirPods out of Your Case
AirPods, the genuine ones are expensive, and the older models are not water-resistant. A slip of the fingers if you’re in the bathtub or close to the water will be a disaster.
You might need to have them repaired. The fact is that the first generation and second-generation AirPods are not water-resistant. Nor is the AirPods Max, so do keep them away from wet stuff and water at all costs.
Be sure as well to remove them from the case carefully to avoid them slipping and dropping in water. The good news is that the AirPods Pro is water-resistant but not waterproof. So you must do your best to keep them from falling into the water.
Removing your AirPods from the case might be a tad bit trickier than discovering how to connect an AirPod to a new case. Some AirPod users say it feels stuck in the case once inside for charging or storing purposes.
When you stick your AirPods into the case it goes in firmly to ensure that they are pulled down on the AirPods magnetic strips to charge properly.
This is why it feels like it’s stuck firmly inside. So getting them out requires a skillful act of gently pushing them forward.
If you’ve tried to take them out but the AirPods are still connected in case, here are a few tricks to try out that usually work:
- Place your index finger where the charging light is.
- Now use your thumb over the speaker portion to grab and remove an AirPod.
- Repeat this to remove the second AirPod.
- You could also try curling the AirPod towards you when you place your index finger over the charging light.
- This will cause the AirPod to pop out slightly while dangling a bit out of the case, making it easy to remove from the case.
- Finally, the last way you can remove your AirPods from the case would be to quarter-turn them towards you as this will make them dangle slightly out of the case and easier to remove.
Just don’t be in a rush and pull them out clumsily using your fingers as you might struggle to get them out this way. The surface of the AirPod is slippery, and you could end up pulling them out too hard causing the AirPods to fall out somewhere (hopefully not in water).
Removing the AirPods from the case is also one way how to stop AirPods from charging in case. Once out of the case you are ready to use them. This means the next place your AirPods should go in is your ears for hours of personal enjoyment.
Once out of the case you can put the AirPod case away somewhere cool and clean, out of the sunlight because the AirPods do work without the case nearby.
Also in the event of you being away from the case, or losing your case, do bear in mind that you can pair AirPods with a different case, so getting a replacement case won’t be an issue.

Should I leave AirPods in Case when Charging Case?
Your AirPods should be in the case if you are not using them and when they require charging. You may charge both the AirPods and the case at the same time. But, it is not necessary to have the AirPods in the case when charging the case. If you are not using the AirPods, simply put them back in the case and it will also charge on the go this way.
That being said, you should make sure that your AirPods are connected to your case before you charge it because connecting your AirPods to a dead case isn’t possible.
Why is my AirPod Case Hot?
Don’t worry if your AirPods case heats up when charging. They are not necessarily overheating or overcharging as it is not possible to overcharge either the AirPods or the case.
How to Save your AirPod from Water Damage?
If your AirPods or the case falls into the water do not connect them or attempt to use them. Simply dry them out thoroughly with a soft microfiber cloth. Then place them upside down and leave them to air out completely. Only when dry can you use your AirPod or the AirPods case.
